Annular Tear

Annular Tear

Annular Tear is a condition where one of the intervertebral discs tears, compromising the support of the spine.

What is an Annular Tear?

Symptoms

  • Pain
  • Tingling
  • Numbness
  • Weakness in legs or arms
An Annular Tear is the tearing of the exterior of an intervertebral disc. These discs support the bone structure of the spine, but can tear when a disc is subjected to excess stress. As a person ages and their back and neck are subjected to more wear and tear over time, annular tears can become more likely to occur. Different types of tears, with different levels of pain, can also be caused by traumatic injury to the intervertebral disc.

Our Approach

Ideally, an annular tear can be treated without any type of surgical procedure. Many potential non-surgical treatments include pain medication, epidural injections, deep tissue massages, and several other options. If these don’t respond, we’ll use our minimally invasive AccuCision┬« Spine procedure to repair the damaged disc and stop the pain caused by the annular tear. Unlike painful and invasive traditional surgery, our procedure requires minimal incisions and usually no hospital stay at all.
